About MikaBudo

Where did Maruiryu AikiJujutsu come from …

It started a long time ago, in some books on secret fighting methods, there are mentions of Daito Ryu. The foundation of this martial arts school dates back to the Kamakura period (1185–1333). Minamoto no Yoshimitsu (1045–1127) is considered to be the founder of this Style. The name of this martial art comes from the name of his residence „Daito”. This art was practiced only by the Minamoto warriors, and later also by the Takeda family. Over the years, this system was passed down within the Takeda family as a family secret, not everyone could practice Daito Ryu. Master Takeda Sokaku (1859–1943) was the first to teach his art to anyone who could. Takeda Sokaku traveled around Japan to teach Daito Ryu. The story says that he has taught around 30,000 people throughout his life, but only 12 have obtained a Daito Ryu (Kyuju Dairi) instructor license, including Aikido creator Ueshiba Morihei and Takeda Tokimune (son of Taked Sokaku).

Two of the master’s students were fully licensed to teach Daito Ryu AikiJujutsu (the so-called Menkyo Kaiden), they were Tonedate Masao and Hisa Takuma.

Two of the master’s students were fully licensed to teach Daito Ryu AikiJujutsu (the so-called Menkyo Kaiden), they were Tonedate Masao and Hisa Takuma. Master Hisa Takuma taught at the Asahi Dojo in Osaka. Master’s students founded an organization called TakumaKai, and this is where our story begins. My teacher, Sensei Kempas Marko from Finland, started teaching Daito Ryu AikiJujutsu in his country after a long stay in Japan. He was a student of such masters as, for example, Mori Hakaru, Amatsu Yutaka, Kobayashi Kiyohiro, Kawabe Takeshi … In December 1999 I contacted TakumaKai organization, they handed me over to Sensei Kempas Marko, from that moment I became his personal disciple. So we were members of the Daito Ryu AikiJujutsu TakumaKai organization. After many years, we decided to leave the organization and start something simplified together and without a political game.

So we were members of the Daito Ryu AikiJujutsu TakumaKai organization. After many years, we decided to leave the organization and start something simplified together and without a political game. We decided to start our own organization, reform techniques and levels of initiation. This is how the organization „Kokusai MikaBudo Kyokai” was created and the name of the style was changed to „Maruiryu AikiJujutsu”. It is an unarmed martial art practiced by the samurai, the emphasis is on self-defense. We also teach how to use various types of weapons (stick, string …). For the more advanced, we also offer IaiJutsu (samurai sword) training from the Arakimunisai Jikiden Ogawaryu Hyoho school whose head master (Soke) is Soke Ogawa Masanori li.
